The Junior Knights Athletic Association is an organization set up to teach athletic fundamentals to students and families living in the Johnson High School District.  We strive to provide a safe, fair and organized environment for athletes and families to learn and grow in.

 

The feeder schools in the Johnson High School are:

        JUNIOR KNIGHTS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

   CONSTITUTION

    Adopted 03/04/2008

 

Article I: NAME & LOCATION

1.1 NAME & LOCATION: The name of the organization is Junior Knights Athletic Association, herein referred to as the Organization. The principle location is Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia.

 

Article II: PURPOSE

 2.1 PURPOSE: In accordance with and subject to the bylaws and at the discretion of the Board of Directors, the primary purpose of the Organization is to provide support to those students participating in co-curricular activities within the Johnson High School District.  The Organization shall be affiliated with the Hall County School Board and Hall County Parks & Leisure Services and is subject to the rules and regulations passed by these bodies insofar as they affect the functions of the Organization and are not in conflict with these bylaws.

 

Article III: PHILOSOPHY

3.1 PHILOSOPHY: We believe that all students, parents and the community benefit from participation in co-curricular activities and it is critical to the success of our children and community.

Article IV: MEMBERS

4.1 MEMBERS: The organization will be organized as a 501C3 non-profit corporation with its membership consisting of individuals who are a parent, legal guardian, or family member of a student in the Johnson High School district, who agrees to be an active paying participant and/or volunteer, in good standing, and will support the organization in its purpose. Volunteering for specific activities will be expected of all members. Members should realize they represent the district in their capacity as boosters and fans and that their support of school activities is important.

 

Article V: GOVERNANCE

5.1 GOVERNMENT: The organization will be governed by a Board of Directors. The Board will consist of five (5) elected officers, consisting of: a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and At-large Member. There shall be at least one (1) member of each district elementary school on the Board.

 

5.2 ELECTION OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS:  The Board members of the Organization shall be determined by election in the manner prescribed in the Bylaws.

Article I: MEMBERS

1.1  MEMBERS:  Any individuals who are a parent, legal guardian, or family member of a student in the Johnson High School district, who agrees to be an active paying participant and/or volunteer, in good standing, and will support the organization in its purpose. Volunteering for specific activities will be expected of all members. Members should realize they represent the district in their capacity as boosters and fans and that their support of school activities is important.

 

Article II: GOVERNING BODY

2.1 GOVERNING BODY: The Government of the Organization shall be a Board of Directors as defined in the Constitution.

 

2.2 DUTIES: The supervision of the material and affairs of the organization shall be the responsibility of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall be the final authority on interpretation of the Bylaws.  The Board shall be authorized to name any standing or special committee, as deemed necessary, and which it may properly assign. The Board may adopt such rules and regulations for the conduct of its meetings and the supervision of the organization, as it may judge proper. A quorum shall consist of 4/5th’s of the duly elected Board and shall act on issues presented by or to the board by a majority vote.

 

2.3 ELECTION OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS:   At the regular annual meeting of the Organization, or other designated date by the Board, a slate of nominees for officers shall be presented. The election shall be by majority vote of the members present. The candidates may also include open nominations from the floor. Upon election, the officers shall immediately begin the fulfillment of their duties and shall continue in office for two (2) years or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified.  The election of the President and Vice President will be held in alternating years with the Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large Member, as to allow continuity on the board.

 

2.4 DUTIES OF OFFICERS: The Board of Directors shall have such authority and perform such duties in the management of the organization’s activities as usually pertain to the offices they hold, as may be assigned to them by the Board or a vote of the voting members, or as may be otherwise provided by these Bylaws including but not limited to the following:

President: The President shall be the active head of the organization and subject to the decisions of the Board. He shall have general control and management of all its activities and affairs. The President shall preside at all meetings. The President shall act as the primary liaison with Johnson High School and Hall County Parks & Leisure Service. 

Vice President: The Vice President shall assist the President at all times with respect to special assignments or committees. In the absence, inability or resignation of the President, the Vice President shall assume the duties of the President. 

 

Secretary: The Secretary shall keep a record of all proceedings of the meetings and shall keep all non-financial records of the organization, issue notices of meetings and submit minutes of the previous meeting to the Board for approval. These minutes will be permanently filed in the records of the Organization. The Secretary shall act as notary public for the Organization.

Treasurer: The Treasurer shall assume direction of all financial matters. The Treasurer shall keep a record of and have custody of all funds of the organization. The Treasurer shall keep a record of all monies received and paid out and all vouchers and receipts thereof. The Treasurer shall keep books of accounts of the financial condition of the organization and shall prepare a financial report at least quarterly for approval by the Board at its regular Board meetings. The Treasurer shall assist in filing tax returns, reports, and other information that is deemed necessary.

2.5 ORDER OF BUSINESS: At meetings of the organization, the rules contained in Robert’s Rules of Order shall govern the Organization, except in such cases where they are not consistent with these bylaws or the constitution of the Organization.

2.6 REMOVAL OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND OTHERS: Any officer or other appointed member, who acts unethically, commits an act of malfeasance, acts inappropriately, or neglects his duties may be removed by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.

 

Article III: REGISTRATION FEES

3.1 FEES: Registration fees for all teams will be established by the Board. Registration fees will be non-refundable after roster submission due date. A late registration fee of $25 will be charged to all registrants after the roster deadline.

 

3.2 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:  Financial assistance may be available for families who meet certain qualifications determined by the Board. 

 

 

Article IV:  MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

 

4.1 FISCAL YEAR: The fiscal year of the Organization will be from January 1st to December 31.

4.2 EXECUTION OF CONTRACTS:  Any Officer shall be authorized to sign all legal and financial agreements, contracts or statements as authorized by the Board of Directors. All checks shall require two Board member signatures. Except as authorized by these bylaws, no Director or member shall have any power to bind the organization by any contracts or engagements, or to pledge its credit or to render it liable pecuniary for any purposes or in any amount.

 

4.3 OWNERSHIP OF EQUIPMENT/ASSETS: The title to any property, equipment or apparatus hereafter acquired shall be owned by the Junior Knights Athletic Association. If it is deemed advisable and prudent, certain items may be donated to organizations approved by majority vote of the Board.

4.4 EARNINGS: No part of the earnings of the organization shall benefit its officers or other persons, except that the organization shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services and costs.

4.5 DISSOLUTION OF THE ORGANIZATION: Upon the dissolution of the organization, assets shall be distributed equally to the participating district elementary schools. 

4.6 CHANGES TO THE BYLAWS: These Bylaws may be amended, altered, or changed at any regular meeting of the Organization by 2/3’s vote. The Bylaws shall be reviewed annually.

 

4.7 SELECTION OF COACHES: All coaches must submit a coaching application. The Board will review and approve all coaches, based on experience, number of coaches needed, etc. Each coach must be NYSCA certified and complete a background check as required by Hall County Parks & Leisure Services.

 

4.8 SELECTION OF TEAMS: All teams will be chosen under strict supervision of the Board and corresponding committee chairman. It is the intent of the Organization that all teams be chosen by draft to help promote more even teams, and better learning opportunities.  For the first year of the Organization, each head coach and up to three (3) assistant coaches will have his child on his team, and all other players will be chosen by draft.  In subsequent years, the head coach will also be allowed to bring back players who played on his team (in the same age group) in the previous year, with a maximum of (6) six returning players including all coaches children.

 

4.9 NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT:  In accordance with Federal law, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
